Mastercard is accelerating the future of AI payments in ASEAN. The company recently rolled out authenticated agentic transactions across multiple markets. At the same time, it announced a new AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore. Together, these moves strengthen secure and scalable AI-powered commerce in the region.

To start, the first wave of agentic transactions is now live in Singapore and Malaysia. More ASEAN markets are expected to follow. As a result, this rollout highlights the region’s growing readiness for AI-driven financial services.

Moreover, Mastercard partnered with UOB to test these capabilities. The collaboration used UOB’s strong regional network, allowing smoother expansion across ASEAN. In addition, Mastercard worked with local banks to ensure each deployment fits market-specific needs.

Because of these efforts, the pilot programs now serve as a foundation for wider adoption. More institutions are also expected to join, further boosting the region’s AI payments ecosystem.

Secure AI Commerce with Verifiable Intent

To support this shift, Mastercard introduced Agent Pay, a framework for secure AI-powered transactions. It combines tokenization, verifiable intent, and end-to-end auditability. Therefore, every transaction remains aligned with user authorization.

Furthermore, Mastercard co-developed Verifiable Intent with Google. This system creates a tamper-resistant record of user consent when AI agents make transactions. As a result, consumers, merchants, and banks can rely on a shared source of truth.

At the same time, this aligns with trends in the Philippines. Lawmakers are pushing for an “AI Bill of Rights” to address risks like misinformation and data privacy. Consequently, Mastercard’s approach supports both innovation and consumer protection.

AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore

Looking ahead, Mastercard will launch its AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore. This hub will combine AI research, cybersecurity, and innovation. Ultimately, it will become one of the company’s largest tech hubs in Asia Pacific.

In addition, Mastercard has over a decade of experience using AI in fraud detection and risk management. Today, more than 2,000 experts continue to develop AI solutions globally. Because of this, the company is well-positioned to scale AI payments across ASEAN.

“Trust is the currency of the AI economy,” said Safdar Khan of Mastercard. He emphasized that secure, data-driven systems will shape the future of commerce.
